Course Overview: This short course will introduce you to similarities and differences between the lives of Robert Frost and Seamus Heaney, and appreciation of how the poets’ lived experiences inform the subjects addressed in the poems and enhance your ability to undertake close critical readings of individual poems. 

You will gain an understanding of literary and historical contexts for representative poems, and the poets’ work in general and the ability to compare and contrast key themes in the work of the two poets, as well as identifying poetic techniques and understanding how they contribute to a poem’s meaning. 

During this short course you will have the opportunity to take part in 3 interactive lessons covering various poems by Robert Frost and Seamus Heaney, including 'For Once, Then, Something’, ‘The Road Not Taken’, ‘Desert Places’, "Personal Helicon” "Had I Not Been Awake" and ‘The Baler’.
