Course Overview: This short interactive course will introduce you to Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, giving you an understanding of the literary and historical context for the novel and ability to identify and examine key themes in the novel.
You will be offered a critical reading of the novel to help you identify the key issues that Mary Shelley raises, and the key messages she conveys.
During this short course you will have the opportunity to take part in interactive lessons introducing you to the cultural and intellectual context into which Mary Shelley emerged as a writer, and appreciation of how her parents’ and her contemporaries' lived experiences inform the novel Frankenstein, as well as appreciating key influences of other writers (for example, P.B. Shelley) on the novel.
You will be introduced to the literary-historical context in which Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein and an understanding of some concepts and insights of both contemporary and timeless relevance in Frankenstein, including the atmosphere and significance of Frankenstein.
