Full course description
Course Overview: ‘The Songbirds’ is a drama based on research led by the School of Nursing in collaboration with colleagues from the Schools of Computing and Psychology. Our research explored the impact of technology facilitated reminiscence on 60 people living with dementia. In our study, personal memorabilia such as photographs, music and videos were stored on an iPad app and then used by people living with dementia and their carers to trigger discussions of past events and experiences.
Ulster is leading the way in research and knowledge translation in supporting older people and their families to navigate the transition associated with old age with a specific focus on reminiscence, family caregiving, technology in dementia and improving the quality of life in care homes.
In this course there will be a focus on 3 research informed themes as follows:
- The impact of technology facilitated reminiscence on people living with dementia and their families
